LERWICK – Shetland Livestock Marketing Group in conjunction with Aberdeen & Northern Marts held their annual spring sale of cattle and special sale of store sheep including ewe lambs on Wednesday 4th April.

All classes met a fantastic fast selling trade with cattle exceeding sellers’ expectations and all classes of sheep benefitting from the general upsurge in the entire sheep trade,

The pre-sale show was generously sponsored by Lerwick Port Authority and was judged by Thomas Gray, South Craighead, Ardallie, Mintlaw who purchased 44 bullocks from the total entry of 138.

The overall Champion and first prize heifer was a Charolais cross from D & G Nicolson, Haygreen, Cunningsburgh.

The reserve champion and first prize bullock was also a Charolais cross from A. Leslie & Sons, Laxfirth.

Second and third Prize bullock also from Laxfirth

Second prize heifer was a Charolais cross from J & DS Halcrow, Tow, Cunningsburgh.

Third prize heifer was a Charolais cross from J & A Sinclair, Sandlodge Farm, Sandwick.

Bullocks sold to a top price per head of £1260 for a Charolais cross from G. Williamson, Vailima, Symbister and to a top price per kilo of 266.4p for Charolais crosses from Laxfirth to average 239.4p.

Heifers sold to a top price per head of £1250 also a Charolais cross from Vailima, Symbister and to as top price per kilo of 292.6p for the Champion from Haygreen to average 212.6p
