Shetland Livestock Marketing Group in conjunction with Aberdeen & Northern Marts sold 166 cattle and 125 sheep at the Spring Show and Sale.
Prior to the Harbro sponsored sale judge Tom Gray, South Craighead, Ardallie, Mintlaw made the following awards;
- Bullock 1st & 2nd – Messrs J & A Sinclair, Sandlodge, Sandwick
- Heifer 1st – Messrs Sinclair
- Heifer 2nd – Meesrs Lesslie, Niaroo, Gott.
- Champion & Reserve – Messrs Sinclair, Sandlodge.
Cattle met an excellent demand and were generally heavier and fleshier than previous years.
Sheep were a very mixed selection and sold well.
Bullocks sold to a top price of £1200 per head and and a top price per kilo of 263.9p for Charolais crosses from Messrs Budge, Bigton Farm, Bigton. Average for Bullocks 235.1p
Heifers sold to a top price of £960 per head from J Irvine, Sumburgh Farm, Virkie and H Moar, Brouster, Bridge of Walls and to 254p per kilo for Simmental crosses from H Moar, Brouster, Bridge of Walls. Average for Heifers was 218.5p
